Having followed this story over the past few months, and interviewed a number of people in Syria, their resilience amazes me. Perhaps that is why - despite their good intentions - it is hard to empathise with the Occupy protests. Through no fault of their own, perhaps, their protest will always feel decadent in the face of stories like this.
